Winning.

Today was big for two reasons: it was my wife's 30th birthday (we celebrated with a bit of Just Dance 3 madness) and the 2012 ALA Youth Media Awards were announced!

This, of course, means I've got lots of great books to add to my Shelfari "Plan to Read" shelf, but it also means I get to revisit some of the books I loved stumbling across over the course of the year.

Congrats to all the winners and hugs and high fives to those titles for which I've already grown smitten. You know who you are...

Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of the Macy's Parade by Melissa Sweet (Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award winner)

I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen (Theodor Seuss Geisel Award Honor Book)

A Ball for Daisy by Chris Raschka (Randolph Caldecott Medal Winner)

Grandpa Green by Lane Smith (Caldecott Honor Book)

...and for Susan Cooper, author of The Dark is Rising sequence, winner of this year's Margaret A. Edwards Award, and skilled thief of countless hours of my youth spent pouring into the incredible worlds created in her prose.

Ahh! Celebrating books always brings such nice closure to the day.

Happy reading!
