Let's talk being tough and sly and agile and ferocious.
Let's see who really is the scariest thing in the jungle.
In I'm the Scariest Thing in the Jungle, written and illustrated by David G. Derrick, Jr., a tiger cub and crocodile pup compete to one-up the other in order to determine who strikes the most fear in all of the jungle. Facts are revealed about each animal as the dialogue plays back and forth. The accompanying water color illustrations are beautiful and a sense of movement exists in each page spread that evokes two friends sparring with one another. The text builds with each character's list of fierce features, but the camaraderie is quickly replaced with fear when the tiger and croc hear a noise rustling in the brush and realize their moms are nowhere in sight. Who's the scariest thing now?
Excellent book that a ton of kids will enjoy. I can't wait to share it in our library!
I especially look forward to seeing my kids hunt the pages of I'm the Scariest Thing… looking for the animals listed on endpapers (which double as field guides).
